How to Create Custom Dashboard Help Messages in WordPress

Are you designing a website for your client in WordPress? Do you think your client will find it tough to move through the dashboard and work it out with posts and other settings?

Why don’t you provide a help message for your client to tell him the basic steps? Here is how you can add a help message in your WordPress dashboard.

There are some plugins that can help you to display a message in the dashboard. This is quite easy.

1. Dashboard Site Notes

Dashboard Site Notes is a simple plugin which is easy to use and well structured. After activating the plugin, you can see an option under the settings menu in the dashboard. Here, you can change the configuration of the plugin, and you can choose where to show the message and also assign the roles who can edit the site notes.

You can create a site note from the menu in the admin panel. It is moreover like creating a post or page. When you publish the site note, the note will be shown in the pages where you have selected it to display. It will also be available under the help tab. In the admin page, under the dashboard menu you can see a new option where all the site notes will be shown.

2. WP Dash Message

WP Dash Message is a plugin which will display a box in the dashboard which can have the message that you can enter. This is a simple plugin which can show a message to help the client using the dashboard.

Once you install the Plugin you can see an option “Dash Message” under the Settings menu in the Dashboard. In this, you can edit the content to be shown in the box.

You also have an option to remove other dashboard widgets and customize how your client views the dashboard.

3. Dashboard Notepad

Dashboard Notepad shows a notepad in the dashboard. You can configure the notepad and select who can edit the content and who can just read the content. Thus, it can be used to help the client about the basic settings and options.

There are lot more plugins that can serve the purpose. These were the ones that I tested and found useful. Clients get a better understanding about where to go and what to do. Plugins explained here are easy to use and consumes less space.
